The “Scorpion” knife is an interesting work of Zlatoust masters. The image of a scorpion on a gilded scabbard gives the impression of sand. Scorpions are ferocious predators that go hunting at night in the hot season. The hunting scorpion walks slowly with its tail up, pushing open claws forward.
Such a fine technique of drawing on metal conveying everything to the smallest detail is possible thanks to the famous Zlatoust steel engraving. Zlatoust masters have been using this technique for decorating weapons for over 200 years. The knife is made of damask steel with ots history dating back for more than one thousand years. The blade also has a drawing of a golden scorpion.
We should also say about the hilt material – it is made of Karelian birch. Karelian birch is famous for its marble texture, mother-of-pearl shine and amber shade of wood. It has long been known outside of Russia and is on a par with rare tropical species measured in trade in kilograms, not cubic meters.
